Letter from the principal
Dear Friends,
Thank you for visiting our website and your consistent care for GMSB(Gangwon Myeongjin School for the Blind), and you are very welcome to visit the school at anytime.
As soon as you enter GMSB, you can feel the great energy and passion of the students and staff.
The GMSB is the only blind school set in the Gangwon Province of Korea. It was founded in 1954, right after the Korean War, to accommodate war orphanages and abandoned children with the loss of sight. It has been developing for 60 years since then to have about 100 students, who are now playing, studying, and growing their dreams in the campus located by beautiful riverside of Chuncheon city.
We have preschool, elementary, mid and high school along with vocational training courses for adults. We are specialized to educate students on Braille, orientation and mobility, as well as job skills such as massage, acupuncture, and acupressure.
I am always thinking of 'the new ways of education to fit the changing needs of the world'. Thus, we are planning and performing educational programs to help students grow self-reliance, motivation, and positive attitudes towards life.
To do this, we encourage students to join 'the summer camp with foreigners,' which is an exclusive program by GMSB for children to gain higher English proficiency and a better understanding of global culture. To speak on a couple of our school's proud achievements, the brass band of Myeongjin has been the champion of various national contests, and the Taekwondo Demo team is the world's first team consisting of students with visual impairments. In the end, my goal for GMSB is to nurture a happy campus in which students and staff members can enjoy all that life has to offer.
However, every effort that we make may not lead to fruitful results without your consistent care and support. We cannot stress how grateful we are to you all!
Thank you again for showing your support and interest in our school by visiting our website.
